THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I am not your typical executive coach. In fact, much of what I coach and write about flies in the face of conventional coaching and leadership advice. I believe that: Building great relationships unlocks just about everything, getting clear on what you want upfront is paramount, the best leaders bring their whole selves to the job, and becoming aware of our emotions helps unlock important inner guidance.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

My inside-out, relational-based approach to leadership and success. We go beneath the surface into the hidden forces driving you and anything that might undermine your potential. We’ll also look deeply into the most critical and often-overlooked ingredient of success in your business and life: your relationships. My focus on how we relate to ourselves and each other is the special sauce that has driven great results for my clients.

Michael Ross

Michael Ross,Founder/CEO of Ross & Associates, isan award-winning publisher and author of four acclaimed books on the business of publishing. He previously held executive positions at several global publishing companies including SVP/GM of Education at Britannica.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My coaching focuses first and foremost on leading and facilitating monthly CEO peer group meetings and then drawing insights from the group dynamics to develop personalized leadership skills and encourage individual accountability. I bring together key insights from the group of high-performing CEOs, input from carefully selected content experts, and my own case studies from 40 years of leading senior-level management teams to enhance my one-on-one sessions with all my clients. I emphasize extreme ownership of both professional responsibility and personal well-being and help clients discover for themselves their true north star and become more confident and productive leaders.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The most critical factor contributing to my success as a coach is the effort that I’ve put into being a mentor to others and a thought leader in my industry. Writing four books between 2003 and 2023 on go-to-market strategies, business models, negotiating, and building relationships, together with my personal experiences leading and developing talent have given me the credibility and permission to lead others on their journeys. Because I have “been there, done that,” I can help others put the ups and downs of their careers in context, empathize with their struggles, and nudge them continually upwards to success.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

As an executive coach, I partner closely with leaders to uncover new insights and enhance their personal effectiveness by building on existing strengths. Having served much of my career in executive level roles, I understand the challenges of navigating complex change and leading teams to optimize performance. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation and hold a Ph.D. and MS in Organizational Psychology with emphasis on engagement, retention, and performance.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

Charlie Lang

Charlie Lang has been a pioneer of executive coaching in Asia being one of the first professional coaches in the region. Charlie, an author of two books and over 250 articles, is a thought leader who keeps innovating for optimal coaching results.

He had an impressive corporate career managing the APAC region at age 37 for a European tech company. In 2002, he founded Progress-U, one of the most respected coaching companies in Asia. As Executive Coach, he works with top executives and their teams across numerous industries.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Developing professional coaches through Progress-U’s double accredited (ICF and WABC) coach certification programs, I obviously recognize the power of executive coaching, but also its limitations in its ‘pure form’. What I do differently from most other coaches is that for me the most important aspect of what I do is the outcome my clients achieve. I don’t hesitate to momentarily switch to teaching if I believe that a certain piece of knowledge would be most useful for my coachee. My clients describe me as particularly resourceful, inspiring and practical.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The most important competence for any coach cannot be found in any coaching competency model: it’s the ability to self-observe while at the same time being fully present with the client. Mastering this paradox contributes to amazing observations in my clients and in myself and the ability to leverage my intuition for the optimal benefit of my clients.

different product and service industries. Working with C-Level to Director level execs, he helps clients to
discover and implement the positive change needed for performance breakthroughs by developing selfawareness, leadership soft skills, attitudes and clarity of focus.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Grounded on the belief that confusing activity with achievement is an unproductive trap. Tom
avoids using a spray-and-pray approach where you first seek to develop the
person, then hope for results. Instead, his approach reverses that model with an initial focus on your results. This proven approach for Leadership Breakthroughs involves three simple
steps:
• First Define the Desired outcomes and results
• Assess the Client and the Scenario
• Tailor a Process to address the desired changes to Achieve the Results

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Tom combines leadership experience with coaching competency. He combines the benefit of a twenty year career as an executive leader and business owner (including both successes and hard knocks) with an ongoing commitment to making each coaching engagement better than the previous. That commitment involves lifetime learning, multiple coaching certifications and ongoing refinement with
using proven coaching tools, multi-science assessments and coaching methodologies.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My approach is unique in that I don’t allow my clients to make excuses or allow fear to get in the way of their goals. We work together to map out the exact life they want for themselves and then design a plan to make it a reality. Throughout the process, they gain self-awareness and the confidence they need to achieve every single one of their goals.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to my success as a coach is my ability to listen. Coaching clients want to feel understood. They want to feel heard and most importantly, seen. During my coaching calls, I listen not only to the message but also to the underlying emotion or need. In this way, I am able to capture the client’s needs in a way that is authentic and validating.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I support executives who want to fine-tune their executive edge and shift from persuaders to influencers. Ultimately they can realize their competitive advantage and operationalize it within the culture of their organization.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to my coaching success is remembering that the client is responsible for their outcomes. THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Working with me you will see immediate results because we are going to get you into a more resourceful state of being. This taps into your mental and emotional intelligence that you already have established. Then, we will set to work on the fine art of learning how to maintain that alignment, such that presence, right action, connection, intelligence, insight, performance, and inner and outer success just keep accelerating. Many of my clients are able to keep on a growth path such that they continue coaching with me for years.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Early in my career, I wanted to share the potential of coaching with as many people as possible so I developed Mylifecoach into a coaching hub. This raised me to the top of Google and resulted in a ton of media exposure, but most importantly, allowed me to work with a lot of clients and has given me incredible popularity and longevity as a coach. Over two decades I have been able to refine and develop my coaching skills and understanding of the key distinctions that lead to sustainable, profound change and success.

Emma has master’s degrees in Divinity and Metaphysics, and is a PhD candidate in Conscious Business Ethics. With 20+ years mentoring, 25 years personal experience in business ownership, and 20 years as a professional psychic, her mentoring is rooted in the practical AND the spiritual.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I assist leaders and business owners with bringing their businesses and enterprises into alignment with their soul design and financial goals. This is often the missing link with clients only focused on strategy and mindset. Adding soul alignment to the equation allows for accelerated growth, often without adding more work hours, strategy, tactics, or leads.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

What has contributed to my success is the diversity of modalities and tools I utilize alongside decades of experience supporting leaders and business owners – helping thousands of people to understand how to do business (and life) in the way that is most natural to them. These include my multiple graduate degrees in Divinity, Metaphysics, and Conscious Business Ethics; Akashic Records Practitioner; endorsed Spiritual Director; my background as a minister and trauma chaplain, as well as my decades of lived experience as a business owner of multiple businesses.

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Whether executive or job seeker, getting from where you are to where you want to be requires change. Our brains are hard-wired to naturally resist, even repel change. Applying neuroscience, I help clients unpackage the social experiences triggered by change, then apply strength-based, positive psychology coaching techniques to co-create goals and action items for the client to work towards. As the client executes their action items, I challenge and support their progress through to the finish line.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The most influential this I do for my career is to develop aspiring and new career coaches. I am the author of Career Coaching: Fundamentals, Applications, and Future Directions – a practical how-to guide that offers a never-before common language for career coaching, distinguishing its applications from other coaching niches. Developing aspiring and new career coaches ensures I remain fresh in my coaching knowledge, skills, and application. It also gives me a chance to pay it forward to a field that has given me so much support over the years.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My work with executives is original—I am one of only a few coaches who is not only a licensed therapist but an expert in the field of somatics (soma is Greek for “body”). I’ve developed the Original Blueprint® Coaching Method, which shifts the mind’s beliefs and integrates those beliefs with compelling behaviors that have presence and impact; it is a whole-person approach to change that ensures both the mind and the body’s physiology make a fully integrated and lasting transformation.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Everything I do with people is done with integrity. If I advise a client to do something, it’s because I have seen it work time and again, including applying all my own methods to myself. I believe that life should be uncomfortable and challenging at times—these are signs of growth. Leaning into risk by taking the path less traveled provides an avenue for growth, innovation, and creativity. The key question to ask ourselves every time we are uncomfortable or challenged is: “What is this here to teach me?”

THE TOP COACHES executive coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Dr Chuma’s coaching creates focus and clarity on key issues and patterns in leaders’ personal and professional lives.  His uniqueness lies in his ability to connect leaders to their core selves that drive their personalities and performance. His book ‘The Learning Leader and the 5 Perspectives of Change Leadership’ (second edition) expounds on this. The first edition was published in 2016. His approach ensures that leaders not only perform on the job, they are also in touch with their feelings and emotions to create authenticity, consistency and sustainability of change.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to Dr Chuma’s success as a coach is his creativity. He identifies leaders’ unique challenges and develop tools and models to address them. Some of his creations include the NEAR Model (for resetting dented self-image of leaders), the succeed Model (for navigating organisational change), the SELF AND SOCIAL MATRIX Framework (that assists leaders in managing themselves when their self-perception differs from stakeholders’ opinion of them), the WISE-KUPA Model (for leadership negotiations), and the BESPOKE Framework (for persuasion and influence). These have aided numerous leaders in powering their performance and addressing challenges.

In my signature development program Break into the C-Suite, I teach science-backed skills that elevate the member’s ability to become more influential. In addition to teaching, each member receives personalized coaching on a set monthly curriculum. Where other coaches may have a mixture of teaching and coaching, my program stands out in that the techniques I use are both science-backed as well as practical and immediately applicable. I have found in coaching executives that they want to be told what to do which is a departure from purist coaching. So in some ways, I give them what they want and need, but then I fold coaching back in to help those clients uncover the deeper “why” behind their challenges.

The decades of coaching has allowed me to build mastery in the four domains of coaching. Namely, life coaching, executive coaching, team coaching, and strategic business coaching. This mastery of the four enables me with the agility to meet and fulfill the client’s needs and expectations. For example, I can quickly move from executive coaching to strategic business coaching if the coaching conversation flows that way and then go on to life coaching if something in the client’s life is an obstacle to business results. And, if the client expresses their intention for me to coach their team, I have the nous, experience, and tools to enable a high-performance team for the benefit of my clients.

Over time, her articles have achieved over 35 million views and her following has grown to over 900,000 on LinkedIn and other platforms.

How is your coaching different from others?

In my coaching work, I draw on everything I’ve learned and experienced throughout my 35+ years of work, and the key points of differentiation from other career and executive coaches I believe are:

1) I serve not only as a coach in my work, but also as a consultant, advisor, mentor and sponsor, leveraging all that I learned from my 18-year high-level corporate career, as well as my former work as a therapist, and through my Forbes and podcast interviews with top movers and shakers in our world. In addition, I’ve conducted proprietary research to help build powerful assessments, tools and approaches that are transformative, through my research with thousands of professional women around the world.

2) I transformed my career twice – from corporate life to serving as a marriage and family therapist then to career/leadership coach, writer, and educator, and these various “lenses” and professional experiences help me help my clients dig deep, discover their right work and illuminate the world with it.

3) I’ve spent 16 years focused on the growth of professional women and have researched the key challenges women face and how to overcome them. IMy latest book, for instance, The Most Powerful You, explores the 7 most damaging power gaps that 98% of professional women face that keep them from thriving in their careers, and how to overcome them. Given this intensive focus, and the large number of women I’ve studied, trained and coached, I understand women’s challenges at a very deep level, and help them transform these challenges through new empowering behaviors, mindsets and actions to rise above the gaps and achieve their most exciting goals and visions.

4) I’m also an entrepreneur, in the “arena” if you will, doing the challenging work every day of business growth, thought leadership, launching programs and products, speaking and serving at a high level, in ways that stretch me out of my comfort zone every day, which helps my clients do the same.

What is your niche or specialization?

I focus on serving mid- to high-level professional women and female leaders who want more, different and better in their careers and professional endeavors.

Which locations do you serve?

I coach, teach and speak globally.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

I believe the most important thing has been the ability to focus on “turning my mess into a message” to help other women thrive. I transformed the deep difficulties I faced throughout my 18 years of corporate life (including gender bias, sexual harassment, chronic illness, zero work-life balance, toxic colleagues and cultures, narcissistic bosses, and feeling a deep lack of meaning and purpose in my work, etc.) and I’ve researched and identified proven frameworks and coaching methodologies that help women overcome these challenges for good, so they can make the difference and impact they long to, with great reward and success on their terms.

I work from High Street Kensington London but serves clients all over the world. I’ve worked with clients from corporates such as Disney, KPMG, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, but also with members of the public, who want to make change and who want to see results fast.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

I believe that my success is down to three things. I have continuously educated myself in many healing methodologies. I am a qualified NLP Master Coach, Coach, Hypnotherapist, EMDR Therapist, Healer and Energy Therapist and easily move from one method to another depending on my client’s needs. The second reason for my success is that I only working with a limited number of clients (max 12). This allows me to fully commit to my clients personal and individual journeys and fully be there for them as they make the change.

The third reason for my success is the thousands of hours I’ve worked with individuals, and I have seen it all. I have helped torture victims from Libya overcome their nightmares, victims of sexual abuse recover a sense of safety, women suffering domestic violence. I’ve worked with high achievers who fly off the handle and hurt the people they love, executives and professionals who struggle with anxiety, emptiness and lack of meaning; as well as with people who have in their hearts a burning desire to do something good for the world.

How is your coaching different from others?

I come from a marketing background so I understand the importance of explaining coaching not in terms of the “how” – not with a model or a framework or a theoretical recitation of research, but in terms of the real benefits to the client and to their organization (given our work is usually funded by organizations seeking to develop their people). My personal style is very straightforward and direct, focused on building a relationship with the client such that I have their trust when I ask them to challenge themselves by considering a new belief or experimenting with a new behaviour. I also am crystal clear about the boundaries of coaching in order that we don’t take on work where we are outside our zone of expertise.

What is your niche or specialization?

While I describe my focus simply as “executives,” my ideal client is someone who believes they are up to something big in the world. They might be leading a big organization or business unit, or they might be in the early stages of bringing a big idea into the world. In either case, my ideal client is aspiring to make a big contribution and is not willing to sacrifice either their health or their happiness in the process.

Which locations do you serve?

My firm serves clients globally.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

I understand that marketing and sales are essential to the success of any business in any field, and coaching is no exception. So while I have invested hugely in building my skills and expertise (given doing good work is the most important component of success) I have also invested hugely in establishing and operating my business such that potential clients know about us and find us easily. What most coaches don’t want to hear is that it takes time, effort and money to build s sustainably successful business.

How is your coaching different from others?

My clients value my own long-lasting own senior leadership experience, my intercultural experience from positions I held in China and India and my profound Executive Coaching skills, which I gained by doing a Masters in Executive Coaching at Hult International Business School/ Ashridge Executive Education. In my time as a Global Business Unit head, I worked with an Executive Coach myself and as such also know the perspective of my clients.

What is your niche or specialization?

As an Executive Coach, I work with senior leaders at an international level and across industries. My client companies span globally leading players, mid-sized companies as well as start-ups. In many cases, topics of my work include the transition from operational management to strategic senior leadership, empathy in communication, cultural change, and team performance.

I work where my clients want me to work. Many of my clients are based in countries different to my home country Germany. I have been extensively working over videoconference also prior to Covid-19 already – both for individual Executive Coaching and also Team Coaching assignments and workshops. While a face-to-face meeting is mostly preferable, my clients regularly confirm that virtual meetings for Executive Coaching are effective as well.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Most important in my view is that I can bring a combination of viewpoints into the coaching room: I am a certified Executive Coach, I experienced the development journey towards a senior leader with global P&L accountability myself, and I am used to dealing with complex business challenges from my time spent in management consulting.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

The coaching I do is unique because I have the rare ability to meet the clients where they are at and customize the partnership to them rather than take them through a rigid, formulaic approach. I do that using my Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology and my direct experience as a leader managing teams of all different sizes. I don’t coach from just a book but rather acutely tune into my clients and tailor the coaching to their specific needs using a blend of my lived experience and frameworks that help professionals succeed such as Emotional Intelligence, mindfulness research, neuroscience and so much more. My gift is being able to simplify the complex and connect meaningfully in a fast and powerful way. I truly believe in attuning to each client and their unique context to help them go from good to great!

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

She is also a professional musician with two albums out, in addition to being a writer/blogger.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My philosophy is to take fewer clients on and work with them often times for many years. I don’t promise quick results, but instead I offer lasting change, which happens from building a trusting relationship with my clients. I work largely with women, because we struggle more with speaking up and claiming something big for our lives, but I’m getting more male clients these days who want the same thing which is great. I focus on the metaphor of theatre (claiming your world stage) and music (finding your voice) because it stems from my experience and expertise in the performing arts.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to my success is that I always focus on the needs of my clients, including former clients, to check in and see how they are doing. I go out of my way to help them, to make sure they feel cared for, and work hard to earn their trust and respect, which is evidenced by hundreds of glowing testimonials. I also always have a few discounted pay clients, for those who are unemployed and/or struggling, so they have access to my services as well.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

David supports his clients by putting his personal and professional experience at the service of their growth. How does his coaching differ from others? Let’s ask his clients; “Insights, wisdom, charisma, energy, “cool french-ness”, reliable, professional, kind, warm-hearted, feeling I can trust” His clients find support in his HR background as well as in his being a part time coach with a CHRO job. His growth mindset and the variety of his experiences let him offer different angles, leading to a deeper relationship with better understanding. Thanks to his experiences and MMS’s teaching (emotional intelligence, body language, etc) he coaches a person, not a situation.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing? My professional and my life journey. It is who I am which makes my coaching valuable for my clients. Working in diverse multicultural environments, in medium size and big international companies helped me develop my empathy as well as a real growth mindset and adaptability. It is definitively this personal and professional journey which contributes the most to my success as a coach. I also fully engage my client’s journeys and I think they sense it; their smile and their lighter pace at the end of a session are my best reward.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I work with ambitious professionals to help them feel in control again, help them define what having it all means for them – as compared to what society has told them – and then help them achieve it! My main objective is to help professionals move forward, find fulfilment and success in all the roles they play. Guiding them through a transition is part of this process, making them feel empowered and accomplished. My coaching style is result-oriented, ensuring my clients experience a paradigm shift that allows them to achieve results in their professional and personal lives. I also use coaching tools and experiments to help them create a toolkit that can be used whenever the need arises.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to my success as a coach is my belief that every individual has all the answers within them and I am just the catalyst and guide to help them pull it out to the forefront. I’m on a mission to empower ambitious professionals, who proverbially have “everything” but feel they are still missing something in their lives. I am able to guide them on how to realign their inner compass and then take the positive steps needed to achieve it. I am able to do the same due to my training under the ICF which  sets a gold standard for coaching.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My research-based coaching framework helps clients in three ways. First, we work on developing lifestyle habits to reverse the ravaging effects of stress/burnout and boost wellbeing. Second, we address workplace stressors at their source with practical, evidence-based solutions. Third, I provide a rich toolkit gleaned from neuroscience and psychology to help clients reframe thoughts and behaviors that may be causing them stress. Equipped with these tools, my clients become more resilient and able transform difficult situations into opportunities of personal growth and meaning.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl wrote, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose a response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” I am most successful when I coach clients in that space. To do that, I use an original coaching framework (the Wellbeing Pyramid) that integrates principles from positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance therapy, emotional intelligence, and research in resilience and post-traumatic growth to help clients see their own power of choice in any situation. Seeing and grasping this power is what unleashes powerful solutions.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Leaders find that the more senior they become, the less feedback they get, and the harder it is to find a truly impartial thought partner. Patrick’s approach to coaching helps fill those gaps and gives leaders practical tools they can use to be the direct, concise, honest, caring, visionary communicator they know they can be. This work starts with building insight and self-awareness and continues with ongoing collaborative real-world coaching sessions that resonate with the leader long after the engagement is over.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Patrick’s clients get great results in part because they are, in a sense, getting two coaches for the “price of one.” Patrick has been in that senior executive seat and so can give the client feedback on how they are coming across that’s extremely relevant. Patrick is able to pair his real-world experience in fast-paced, competitive environments with a deep understanding of how our minds and personalities work, due to his many years practicing and teaching mindfulness. That unique combination of skills helps his clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves that leads to a better understanding of others.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Being both an accredited coach and psychotherapist allows me to help my clients understand better how their mind works.  This is essential for personal growth. I work with clients to help them learn to accept our modes of thought rather than fight them so we can use this to help manage life’s challenges.  Normally it is the chains of the past or the fear of the future that holds people back.  By working closely with my clients I help create an epiphany moment or moments that empowers them to drive change and growth for themselves.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that I have learned as a coach is that everyone has nine emotional needs that we must meet to be content and happy with ourselves.  We start to struggle when we don’t meet those needs in a healthy and balanced way.  When we understand which needs are not being met we find the key to opening the door to improving things going forward.
