THE TOP WRITING COACHES

The Top Writing Coaches writing coaches / 19th March 2022

A Writing Coach provides a critique of your writing through one-to-one interaction, group sessions, or online editing. A writing coach offers feedback on writing projects and helps you improve your writing. For example, if you’re writing a cover letter for a job, your writing coach can critique it and give you feedback on how to improve it.

A Writing Coach or a Freelance Editor is someone who helps writers in their craft.

Writing Coaches work with writers to help them make their writing more effective and clear. They help them reach their audience more efficiently. A Writing Coach is not just a proofreader. A Writing Coach is to a writer what a coach is to a sports player. He will teach the writer with his vast experience, to write like a pro.

We talked with several writing coaches, each with their unique style trying to help the clients with efficient writing, and asked them what’s extraordinary about their coaching and what has endorsed their massive success.

Read on to discover what they have to say.

I’ve used my cross-cultural fluency as a consultant with Berlitz, training senior executives moving between Canada and the United States. I was one of 28 journalists from 19 nations sharing an eight-month Paris-based fellowship. While working in a multi-national team with WaterAid in Nicaragua, we reported in Spanish, English and Miskitu.

As a staff reporter, I have produced front-page exclusives for The Globe and Mail, the Montreal Gazette and the New York Daily News. I now write frequently for The New York Times, where my stories have earned a spot on their most-emailed lists. I also won a Canadian National Magazine Award for humor, and a Hillman award nomination for my book about retail work, given for “journalism in the service of the common good.”

Kathleen Kaska

Growing up in West, Texas during the 1950s, my average-American parents and the nuns at St. Mary’s School instilled in me“good girl” values, leaving an indelible stamp on my character. For respite from this engrainment, I began writing my Sydney Lockhart Mystery Series—set in historic hotels during the fifties, of course—to say and do things I would “never try at home.

I also write the Classic Triviography Mystery Series. My Alfred Hitchcock and Sherlock Holmes trivia books were finalists for the 2013 EPIC award in nonfiction. When not writing, I spend much of my time with my “pilot,” traveling the country’s back roads and byways; bird-watching; and looking for new locales for my mysteries. It was my passion for birds that led to The Man Who Saved the Whooping Crane: The Robert Porter Allen Story (University Press of Florida 2012).

Dagny Sol

Hi! My name is Dagny and I am a book editor and writing coach! But this is not how I began my professional life more than three decades ago. The two words which have dominated my career trajectory are reinvented and self-taught. From systems training in the 1980s to today, I have reinvented myself by acquiring the skills I needed.

I have worn many hats over the years–systems trainer, corporate trainer and leadership coach, writer, editor and writing coach…. and a few more. The one constant through them all has been my love of words and language. I am an avid reader with a stealthy passion for writing irreverent humour. Serenely Rapt has been the home where my words have found refuge.
