What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I teach Christian writers exclusively, coaching them on the industry standards so they can shorten the learning curve and find an agent or land a contract with a publisher. Most of my clients are people I’ve met while speaking at a Christian writer’s conference.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

I believe it’s word-of-mouth. As people experience my honesty and integrity, they naturally tell others about my services. I never try to coach someone beyond what they need. If I feel they have accomplished enough to be successful in the industry, I release them. I don’t require long-term contracts or large down payments. My goal is not to retain clients but to launch them.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

Seeing as I work with creative individuals, namely writers, intuition plays a large role in my coaching process. Not only do I tap into my own intuition to provide guidance, but I also teach and encourage my students to do the same. I respect the fact that one person’s creative process may be vastly different from another’s, so I do not use a “one size fits all” approach and instead adapt my coaching style, as well as the content, accordingly.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

By far, the most critical thing that has contributed to my success as a coach is the openness and vulnerability of the content I share. Doing so has allowed me to connect with people all over the world on a deeper level which is something that isn’t exactly easy to do in the online space. Additionally, my hybrid approach to coaching through self-study programs, one-on-one coaching, and accountability programs provides the freedom and flexibility to choose whatever coaching style resonates the most for each individual student.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I support writers by helping them to write more authentically, purposefully and accurately. I help writers find the words within themselves to mean what they say, and say what they mean. I use positive reinforcement techniques and approaches to help writers build self-esteem, self-belief, mental agility and resilience, so they can reach their full potential as writers. Writing well is challenging and it is imperative that writers understand how their words impact readers on a mind-body-soul level. I help writers fulfill their intention to be authors, and to shine like the amazing writers that they are.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

For me, it’s all about continued learning as a coach and author. I continue to upgrade my body of knowledge through courses such as The Silva Method or the Meta Model. I am a member of the CIEP (the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading), where I constantly improve on my understanding of the English language and editorial skills through the courses the organisation offers. Self-awareness, self-improvement, and self-empowerment have been critical in my coaching practice, and I would say this has been the most critical knowledge I’ve gained since starting on this journey.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My coaching focuses on supporting writers and already-published authors to write and publish the best version of their book that they’re capable of writing. I’m a coach who’s invested in craft and storytelling, and because I work with writers who are putting their hearts and deepest personal truths on the line, I’m equally invested in the process part of coaching. This means my coaching is a blend of teaching, holding accountability, and supporting writers through inevitable emotional hurdles.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Writers I work with feel the balance I bring to my coaching, which means honoring their story and what they bring to the page as essential, while also holding them to their highest potential, prompting them to dig deeper and consider what’s at stake for their readers. I have a high track record of coaching writers to publication, and writers appreciate my deep expertise in memoir and in book publishing.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

I had the good fortune to learn from some amazing coaches early in my career who practiced a variety of coaching methods, and then had 20+ years to put those into practice across several businesses in leadership and non-leadership roles, including Senior Developer, Architect, Scrum Coach, CTO, and of course fiction author.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I love a good story and know that writing is a skill anyone can develop with a little practice and the right person on your side. That’s why I do things a little differently than most other developmental editors. Writing is hard work, and it takes both heart and creativity, and I put all of those into every story path and project I take on. Through story development coaching, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of storytelling and character development techniques, including authenticity and building emotional connections between your story and your readers.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

A coach is only as good as her team, and I am building a team of authors passionate about telling their stories, connecting with readers, and changing the ever-loving world for the better. I’ll work with you to build a milestone-based revision timeline and hold you accountable to your deadlines. At the end, you will not only have completed your revisions, you’ll have built a better, more immersive story in the process.

Adam H. Frank

Adam H. Frank, PhD, is an educational leader, consultant, speaker, and author with expertise in organizational leadership, school discipline and liability, transformational change, and leadership development. Currently, Dr. Frank is the principal at Palmer Ridge High School in Monument, Colorado.

The Top Writing Coaches writing coaches

Prior to this role, he has served as a middle and high school teacher, varsity head coach, dean of students, athletic director, assistant principal, and career tech coordinator. He has nearly 20 years of experience in public education. Dr. Frank received his PhD from Miami University with a focus in organizational leadership and change theory. He is the author of Non-Punitive School Discipline and is in the process of writing his second book that shares innovative approaches to leadership. He is a regular speaker at various conferences and provides consultancy services.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I support teachers and educational leaders by helping them to solve complex challenges through authentic, transformational leadership. I have a proven and well-articulated approach to creating, sustaining, and navigating change initiatives with an emphasis on maintaining high employee and stakeholder morale through the process. In all of my leadership and in my writing and speaking engagements, I make complicated topics easy to understand and provide progressive, yet practical avenues toward solutions.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Being an authentic leader. I truly believe, in today’s world more than ever, that people deeply desire leaders who are authentic. It’s all about clear and skilled communication. An overly guarded approach to leadership or one that seeks to preserve the leader at all costs is bound to fail. Such a style never discovers the true potential that can exist within leadership or in an organization.

Kristin Noland

Kristin Noland is a writing coach and editor who champions authors through collaboration to enhance their stories and hone their craft. She helps authors achieve their dreams of connecting with readers through their words. She appreciates each author is different, as are their needs, and individualizes her services. Kristin’s clients have achieved bestselling status and received publishing contracts.

The Top Writing Coaches writing coaches

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

My coaching style is distinct because I consider the biggest goal to be connecting the author with the reader. Everything is connected. Without the author’s emotions, characters lack emotions, and the story won’t evoke emotions in the reader. While we work on plot, world building, and pacing, it’s engaging characters and character arcs that we concentrate on, so the story resonates with readers. I provide advice, resources, and a strategic plan to improve their craft and stories, while holding them accountable. An author’s style and voice are imperative to the creative process, and we work together to discover and sharpen these during our sessions.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The single most important thing that has contributed to my success is the client. I set the structure of coaching, guide, and encourage them from idea to publication, but without their creativity, drive, and determination, I wouldn’t be a successful writing coach.

She’s also an award-winning picture book author, whose book received the 2020 Distinguished Favorite Preschool Picture Book.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I teach aspiring children’s book writers not only the components that go into a complete story but how to make it engaging and entertaining for young readers. Because it’s not enough to have an idea for a story, you have to have the skills to make it something that readers want to read.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

While I create helpful resources and provide valuable information for children’s book writers to use, I wouldn’t be successful without the determination and enthusiasm of the students I teach to create a story they’re proud to share with their family and friends.

Kathleen Kaska

Growing up in West, Texas during the 1950s, my average-American parents and the nuns at St. Mary’s School instilled in me“good girl” values, leaving an indelible stamp on my character. For respite from this engrainment, I began writing my Sydney Lockhart Mystery Series—set in historic hotels during the fifties, of course—to say and do things I would “never try at home.

I also write the Classic Triviography Mystery Series. My Alfred Hitchcock and Sherlock Holmes trivia books were finalists for the 2013 EPIC award in nonfiction. When not writing, I spend much of my time with my “pilot,” traveling the country’s back roads and byways; bird-watching; and looking for new locales for my mysteries. It was my passion for birds that led to The Man Who Saved the Whooping Crane: The Robert Porter Allen Story (University Press of Florida 2012).
