Alyson Premo

Alyson Premo changed the whole trajectory of her life when she got sober on 11/15/16. Through her own struggles with alcohol addiction, she wanted to share her story and give back to the mom who felt alone, unseen, and unheard. She founded Sober Mom Tribe in 2018 so that she could build a community that brings mothers together who are navigating sobriety or contemplating an alcohol-free life. She has also been a Certified Professional Recovery Coach, aka The Sober Mom Coach, since 2019 and has helped thousands of women through her coaching programs.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I support women to feel empowered when removing alcohol from their lives instead of feeling deprived. My main goal is for them to see there is nothing wrong with them for getting stuck in a cycle with an addictive substance but then to show them they have the power to get themselves out. To do this, I use a combination of powerful questions, listen to their individual needs, and pull tools out of my coaching certifications toolbox to get them to see how capable they are of making the change.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

The most important thing is understanding and relating to my clients because I’ve been through it. I was the mom who looked like I had it all together on the outside, but on the inside, I was slowly dying from alcohol. Building that trust with my clients allows them to open up fully so that we can get to the root of the problem and work through it, and they can come out the other side with a solution instead of continuing to hide and suppress their drinking.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

Receiving coach training from the International Association of Professional Recovery Coaches, specifically the Live Skills portion of the training has prepared me to be a successful coach. Learning how to support clients by meeting them where they are at, developing trust and building rapport, setting up an action plan, providing accountability, and celebrating wins creates an environment for success. This training combined with what I learned by personal experience on my own journey to ditch the drink, has made me an incredibly empathetic and non judgemental coach with the highest of ethics and standards.

What do you do differently or how is your coaching different from others?

I am also in recovery and I know what it’s like to struggle with substance use. I connect deeply with my clients and create a safe, empathetic, judgement free space. I also know what it’s like to experience true freedom from substance use, and that is my dream for everyone I work with. I support all modalities of healing and take a holistic approach to recovery. The people I serve not only cut back or completely give up substances, they get brand new, amazing lives that are infinitely richer than before.

What according to you has been the single most important thing that has contributed to your success as a coach?

My continued journey of discovery in recovery. I understand that recovery needs to evolve and I’m able to pass along so many things that I’ve learned along the way. I also have a strong foundation in motivational interviewing, and I help folks truly find their own path that works for them. Their journey may look nothing like mine and that’s OK.

Andy Smith

On the face of it, Andy’s life looked great. A stellar, award-winning and record breaking career, a flash company car on the drive, great family, and money in the bank. Underneath, however, he was hiding a secret. If you met him, you would find an outgoing guy who would smile and offer you a beer, but inside there was a relentless battle against alcohol addiction and the self-loathing that went with it. Andy grew up in a pub on a tiny island in the Shetland Islands and as a young man, being able to ‘hold your drink’ was a rite of passage into manhood. If you weren’t able to down a half bottle of whisky and remain standing you were in some way inferior.

Harry dealt with a tremendous amount of guilt and shame based around his secret and as a result started drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana at the age of 14. Harry was a springboard diver from the age of 6 up until his freshman year in college. Harry strived for perfection as a diver and continued to use alcohol and drugs to cope with the stress of competition as well as hiding from his true self.
