The moment I read Catcher in the Rye in high school, I knew I wanted to write. But growing up Orthodox Jewish in Brooklyn, New York, writing wasn’t on the menu of options: Become a doctor. Or lawyer. Or marry one. No one said Mazel Tov, when I shared my love of creativity.
“You’re going to write? You’re going to starve!” said my mother. And everyone I knew agreed. Maybe you got a similar message, too, about the impossibility of your true desires. Maybe with a different accent.
Joanne Lee
Welcome seekers, skeptics, wanderers, wonderers ~ We meet here in this virtual reality, some curious, some hopeful, some weary, some wise. You, seeking a guide, a teacher, a coach. Seeking more of yourself through the mirror of me. Me, seeking momyself through the mirror of you. Infinite possibility awaits us should we choose to dance this dance.
My road home was long and rutted. More Central American jungle track than North American super highway. I definitely identified as a seeker until I finally called a preemptive strike. I obviously wasn’t going to “make it” in this lifetime. I didn’t work hard enough at it. I didn’t have a disciplined spiritual practice. I kept trying to solve the mystery rather than be it.
Priyanka Dutta
Let me take you back to how I started my journey & what I do. After completing my MBA in HR, I put my foot down & told my parents that I wanted to move to Delhi to start my career. With some money in my hand, I moved to Delhi in search of HR jobs. I rose from ranks and made my mark in the field. “One of the most genuine & ethical HR Professional I have came across so far.
Her innovation at work has always surprised me and the team.” This is what I was know for. Life wasn’t easy, but I always made my way through it & I am proud of it. There came a point where I became a mother. I loved my career, but the mother in me never wanted to build her career at the cost of my child’s early childhood, for I didn’t have a reliable support system.
So, I decided to take sabbatical. 4 years later, the professional in me was desperate to get back. I always made a choice between ‘either or’, never knew that ‘this & that’ is a possibility too. I decided to get back to my career no matter what. It wasn’t easy, but got through an HR role. Was underpaid, but still I picked it up because I wanted to make a come back.
Laura Simpson
I was 25, and during the financial crisis of 2009 I moved to Andalusia. I had no job lined up and didn’t speak a word of Spanish. Initially cultural integration and the language barrier were deeply challenging. I lost count of the times I wanted to get on the next flight home. However, I had promised myself I wouldn’t leave Seville until I was totally fluent.
A few years later, I was frequently mistaken for a local. I worked in the HR department of one of the biggest FMCG companies in Spain as one of five non-native speakers out of a workforce of 800. I helped the CEO prepare for international business meetings. I was asked by the HR Director to be a simultaneous translator at a company-wide conference, so our UK-based colleagues would understand the speeches given by senior leadership
