Lauren
After graduation, I made the craziest decision of my life. I abandoned my “dream opportunity” at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York, and instead, booked a one-way ticket to Spain. I was terrified. I had no idea what I was doing, or what I was looking for. All I knew was something had to change. Living and traveling abroad, outside of my circumstances and far from all those I knew and loved, I had no one to rely on but myself.

Wiebke Homborg
In total, I have spent 22 years living abroad (outside of Germany) and I have felt at home in six different countries. I grew up in Belgium, the US and Spain and it was only when I was 18 that I came to stay in Germany for any length of time. After my professional training as an executive PA and after spending the first years of my professional life in Hamburg.
I was drawn to foreign climes again. Among other things, I worked in Chile for a German bank and for an automotive supplier in Mexico. I have been back in Germany now with my family for over twelve years, but still have strong ties to Latin America.
Melissa Parks
Hi! I’m Melissa I have my PhD in Clinical & Health Psychology and worked with the globally mobile community for many years now. I know firsthand just how hard it can be to live abroad because I was an expat myself for 10 years. Although I now live back in my home country, I still consider myself a “global nomad” because my day-to-day life spans countries, cultures, timezones, and languages.
I’m in an intercultural, bilingual marriage, raising a bilingual Cross-Cultural Kid, and interact with colleagues around the world in the online community for location independent mental health professionals that I co-founded.
